About Uwuifier

In high school, I used to see a lot of memes around UwU. It basically changes a sentence to sound “cuter” or more anime-like, so “Hello, how are you today” would become “Hewwo how awe you today?”. For fun, I decided to create an NPM package that would do this automatically, inspired by a Chrome extension created by leafysweetsgarden that no longer exists. Once I got the package up and running, a few friends of mine joined the project, David Brands, Wouter de Bruijn, and Kerim Demirci.

One thing led to another, and before we knew it, we had published a NPM and Deno package. I also published a Uwuifier Android app on the Play Store and we had the Uwuifier website up and running. The Play Store app has over 5K downloads with a rounded average of 5 stars, and the website has more than 100K views!

I find it very funny that my most “successful” project is a translator for a niche community that I’m not even a part of. However, I'm really glad that I took the time to develop this silly idea into an application. The Uwuifier app is written in Expo, the package itself in Deno, and the website in Vue 3. I plan on redesigning the website and launching an iOS app to attract more visitors. I’m very grateful to be surrounded by friends with such a passion for programming who are always there to help me out with anything!
